Hello people,
I am here as a blogger because of my best friend who constantly "appreciates" my work. (It was his idea to start a blog).Thank you Laxman.
So i would like to start by discussing about the power of appreciation.
"Appreciation can make a day, even change a life.Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary"
-Margaret Cousins
I was late to office and had to take an auto. He was not like the usual "fast and furious". He drove patiently and when neared my office he took the auto so close to the foot path,so that I dont have to walk that little distance. How thoughtful of him. Its a simple thing. Its a Rs.20 drive, but still he wanted to be perfect. I said "Thank You".It was clearly seen that he was happy to hear that :) . Iam pretty sure it would have boosted him up for the rest of the day. How many times do auto drivers get thanked for the safe drive ??. But they are never left without a scolding, when they make a mistake.
We expect our superiors to appreciate us, but never felt the need to appreciate people who work for us.
There is this cook in my PG. aww you should taste his veg.briyani, simple and yummy. Also his mango something(It was something between a pickle and a chutney. dont know what people call it).I liked it.Especially when you are away from home , a decent food makes you feel good. I wanted to tell him somehow. If only i knew Telugu :p. Today I just signalled him showing the food "Super". He just nodded. No reply. Not even a smile. I was like why did I even talk to him. Later in the evening I was so hungry and hunting kitchen for something to eat. He saw me and asked "emi kavala?". I signalled that Iam hungry . (Must have looked like a beggar). He smiled and gave me the payasam that he had packed for him!. Looks like we are going to be good friends soon :). Now thats what I call the " The Appreciation effect".
Doesnt mean you have to flatter people. But tell them what they deserve to hear!
You may be eating your mom's food right from birth, but that doesnt mean you dont have to appreciate it.She still took the effort to make you your favourite food. You just have to open your mouth and say "Nice". and see how happy she gets :).Try telling a girl " You are beautiful". Good results guaranteed.
Come on we all know how it felt as a kid when our teachers said "Good girl/Good boy"
.
Simple "Thanks" "Good job" "Hey nice dress" "Its Yummy Mummy" "Thank you dad" "you have lost weight"
"Creative" "You work hard" "I love the way you smile"- May mean a lot to people who hear it.
Yeah I can hear some of you say., Thanking everyone , all the time can seem little dramatic. Well then Smile, just smile with a nod. Just let the people know that they are appreciated in some form .
Come on its free., so next time you feel like someone has done a good job.. just go ahead :)
P.S I dont mind if you like my blog and want to appreciate me ;)
